Therefore, it is always a worry knowing how hard gorilla trekking in Uganda is. In Uganda, there are two national parks that are all to about 2,000 meters above sea level, these are Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The difficulty of Uganda gorilla trekking safari actually depends on the physical ability, age of the individual, and what time of the year one goes gorilla trekking. The difficulty of gorilla trekking in Uganda will probably vary for each individual.

Physically fit individuals and hikers will find it very easy to go trekking and return without many hardships. However, persons who are physically unfit or have difficulties hiking may find it challenging to trek gorillas in Uganda.

Mountain gorillas live in families and a total of 8 tourists are allocated a single gorilla family to trek. Fortunately, each group of 8 individuals that goes trekking is allocated a gorilla group that they can trek in accordance to their physical ability.

Those with hiking difficulties are allocated families that are within areas near the trek start point and those who are capable of hiking longer are allocated groups that spent their night further. Each group also treks depending on the speed of the slowest trekker.

The group is guided by skilled trackers who help you go through the forest.

It actually isn’t hard to trek gorillas, however, this may vary for different trekkers. In case you have any hiking difficulties ensure to inform the guides during briefing such that you are allocated an appropriate group.

With the altitude in which mountain gorillas survive, gorilla trekking requires an individual to have minimal hiking ability.

Is it possible for persons with disabilities to go Gorilla trekking in Uganda?

With the fact that the activity requires mobility, persons with disabilities may feel left out and unable to trek gorillas in Uganda. Being disabled or having problems with mobility does not mean that you cannot go gorilla trekking. To be able to trek gorillas, the disabled can hire porters and a sedan chair that can be used to carry the individual until where the gorillas can be found. When you reach the gorillas, you are put down to take pictures and then returned to the trek start point.

Worry not if you want to have a gorilla trekking safari in Uganda because any person who is above the age of 15 years and has a gorilla trekking permit can go trekking. Just ensure that you have no illness that is contagious and can be spread to the gorillas as such individuals are not allowed to trek gorillas.
